Medical Internship in the Dominican Republic!
Ready for a unique experience in your medical career? Introducing our Medical Internship Program in the Dominican Republic – an exciting opportunity to learn and make a difference!
Duration
The Medical Internship in the Dominican Republic spans a total duration of 6 weeks, encompassing 5 weeks of online training followed by a transformative 1-week experience in the Caribbean nation.
The online component features a structured curriculum delivered through 2-hour online sessions each week. These sessions are not only live but also recorded, providing participants with the flexibility to revisit content at their convenience. During this period, each participant is assigned a doctor who will be readily available to address questions and provide guidance, ensuring a supportive and enriching remote learning experience.
Spend a Week in the Dominican Republic
The highlight of the program is the week spent in the Dominican Republic. The journey commences with an in-person training session at the vital signs station on the arrival day, setting the stage for hands-on experiences.
The subsequent four days involve mobile clinics in communities with limited access to medical care, offering participants a unique opportunity to apply their training in challenging environments and contribute to addressing unmet medical needs.
Professional Development and Cultural Immersion
On the fifth day, participants will visit a local hospital, gaining valuable insights into medical differences and hospital practices in the Dominican Republic. The program strikes a balance between professional development and cultural immersion by providing a free day on the sixth day, allowing participants to explore and experience the country under the guidance of a travel agent. The week concludes on the seventh day with the return journey home.

Medical Internship FAQs
The clinics will be located in communities where they are needed. These are places where doctors or medical teams haven’t been for a while.
No, our entire team speaks English. The majority of our team is preparing themselves to practice abroad, which is why they are learning English.
Yes, some of the communities where our medical clinics go have Creole speakers. Our team will have translators to provide the best service and ensure understanding for our patients.
In addition to the program fee, students will also be responsible for their own flight arrangements to the Dominican Republic. We offer payment plans and financing options for the program fee. We do not directly offer scholarships through IHA, however some students have applied for scholarships through their school while others have been creative and done self fundraising through sites like Go Fund Me.
Depending on your country of origin, you may need a visa. We have a third-party partnership that can assist you with the process if it is required, ensuring you have a hassle-free experience.
Besides enhancing your resume, the most significant experience that many of our interns said that they gain is a transformative before and after life encounter. You can observe the public health dynamics of other countries, understand how hospitals are run, and witness the impact of endemic diseases from various regions. Additionally, you have the opportunity to contribute to and collaborate with your team in creating and managing medical free clinics, ensuring accessible healthcare for every patient who comes to our clinics.
Awareness of health and safety protocols, especially in times of global health challenges like pandemics, is crucial for a safe internship experience.
